How is the FuelEU Maritime penalty calculated?

The FuelEU penalty applies when a ship's attained greenhouse gas intensity exceeds the yearly target. It is the compliance deficit expressed in tonnes of VLSFO-equivalent energy, multiplied by EUR 2,400 per tonne, under Regulation (EU) 2023/1805.

How is the EU ETS cost for shipping calculated?

EU ETS cost is the tonnes of CO2 in scope multiplied by the share of emissions that must be surrendered for the year and the price of an EU allowance (EUA). Voyages between two EEA ports count in full; voyages with one EEA port count at half.
